After being released in theaters on July 4, 2025, Metro In Dino is getting ready to go digitally. As a spiritual follow-up to his 2007 smash Life In A... Metro, Anurag Basu's romantic drama intertwines intertwined love stories set in contemporary metropolitan India.
The streaming rights have reportedly been purchased by Netflix, and the OTT debut is anticipated on August 29, 2025. Although the formal announcement has not yet been made, the schedule corresponds with the usual 45–60 day interval between theatrical and streaming releases.
A Story of Love with Many Layers
In keeping with Basu's trademark linked narrative, the movie tracks four couples as they go through various phases of love:
- A commitment-averse man named Parth (Aditya Roy Kapur) finds himself surprisingly attracted to Thumri (Sara Ali Khan), who is already engaged.
- An older couple, Shivani (Neena Gupta) and Parimal (Anupam Kher), reunite after a long separation.
- Dealing with an unintended pregnancy are Ali Fazal and Fatima Sana Shaikh.
- Raghu (Pankaj Tripathi) and Shruti (Konkona Sen Sharma), who are battling with marital infidelity and emotional distance.
Only one cast member, Konkona Sen Sharma, is playing the same character from the original 2007 movie. She and the late Irrfan Khan were originally supposed to be in the script, but Basu disclosed that it was changed after his death to preserve a link to the original.
Reaction and Effect
On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie has an 84% audience rating and a 64% critic score, reflecting mixed to favorable reviews. Konkona Sen Sharma and Pankaj Tripathi's performances have received particular recognition, and Pritam's melancholic soundtrack has been hailed for encapsulating the nostalgic appeal of the original movie. The lack of Irrfan Khan and singer KK, however, was greatly felt by certain critics who pointed out pacing problems.
